Penelope Trappes ist eine in London lebende, in Australien geborene Sängerin, Musikerin und Schöpferin ätherischer Klanglandschaften. Im Jahr 2016 schrieb und nahm sie in einem Klavierstudio in Ostlondon ihr erstes Soloalbum „Penelope One“ auf. Die LP, die größtenteils aus perkussionslosen, hallreichen und eindringlichen Klangwelten mit dystopischen Themen besteht, erschien 2017 bei Optimo Music auf Vinyl sowie als Fotobuch. Die erste Single „Puppets“ feierte ihre Premiere als Eröffnungsstück der Fendi-Modenschau für die Saison Frühjahr/Sommer 2017.
2018 unterschrieb Penelope bei Houndstooth und veröffentlichte ihr zweites Album „Penelope Two“, das von der Kritik hoch gelobt wurde. Das minimalistische, ätherische Album basiert auf Field Recordings, Meditationen, Gitarren, Synth-Drones, Klavier sowie Hall-Effekten und thematisiert Vergänglichkeit, Vorherbestimmung und Empathie.
2019 erschien „Penelope Redeux“ – eine Sammlung von Neuinterpretationen der Songs von „Penelope Two“ durch Künstler wie Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, Félicia Atkinson, Nik Colk Void und andere.
„Penelope Three“ hat sie im Frühjahr 2021 bei Houndstooth veröffentlicht. Wenn sie nicht gerade Musik macht, widmet sich Penelope der Fotografie, dem Video und der Performance-Kunst als Teil des Kunstkollektivs Agnes Haus.

Penelope Trappes is a London-based, Australian-born singer, musician and creator of ethereal soundscapes. In 2016, she wrote and recorded her first solo album, Penelope One, in a piano studio in East London. The LP, which consists largely of percussion-free, reverberant and haunting soundscapes with dystopian themes, was released in 2017 by Optimo Music on vinyl and as a photo book. The first single, “Puppets”, made its debut as the opening track at the Fendi fashion show for the Spring/Summer 2017 season.
In 2018, Penelope signed with Houndstooth and released her second album, Penelope Two, which was highly acclaimed by critics. The minimalist, ethereal album is based on field recordings, meditations, guitars, synth drones, piano and reverb effects, and explores themes of transience, predestination and empathy.
In 2019, ‘Penelope Redeux’ was released – a collection of reinterpretations of the songs from ‘Penelope Two’ by artists such as Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, Félicia Atkinson, Nik Colk Void and others.
She released “Penelope Three” on Houndstooth in spring 2021. When she isn’t making music, Penelope devotes herself to photography, video and performance art as part of the Agnes Haus art collective.
